Bio

The talented midfielder and his Korea Republic teammate Ki Sung-Yueng make up the young duo dubbed "Double Dragon," because of their devastating and explosive overall potential. This 21-year-old made his mark while playing well at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup tournament. He has three international goals since joining the senior South Korean national side in 2008. His latest mark came in a friendly match victory over Ecuador in May. Regarded as one of South Korea's top young prospects, he was named one of the top 50 rising stars by British newspaper, The Times. Yong began his professional career with FC Seoul of K-League, but in 2009, he jumped to Bolton Wanderers of the prestigious English Premier League. He scored four goals for the Wanderers during the 2009-2010 season. At the end of his first season with that club, Yong earned Bolton player of the year and Players' player of the year, along with a handful of newcomer awards.
