A strong holding defensive midfielder, Kaita appears poised for a spot in Nigeria's starting XI after strong performances in the latter stages of World Cup qualifying and in January's African Cup of Nations. He has appeared in all three of the Super Eagles' most recent friendlies, starting two and coming off the bench in a scoreless draw versus Saudi Arabia on May 25. Kaita was part of the U-20 squad that reached the final of the 2005 World Cup - converting a penalty kick in Nigeria's epic 10-9 quarterfinal victory after the match ended 1-all - and the 2008 Olympic squad that claimed a silver medal in Beijing. While Kaita has been on AS Monaco since 2008, the French club has loaned him out to Russian sides FC Kuban Krasnodar, Lokomotiv Moscow and most recently Alania Vladikavkaz.
