Samir Handanovic is an immense presence in goal for Slovenia. Known for his remarkable agility despite his size, he is a reliable figure for his national side.Handanovic began his youth career at Slovenian club NK Domzale, signing a professional contract with them after just one year at the club. He only made seven appearances for Domzale before grabbing the attention of a number of European clubs. Udinese moved swiftly to sign the goalkeeper and the move was completed in the summer of 2004. After enjoying year long loan spells at Treviso, Lazio and Rimini, Handanovic returned to Udinese for the beginning of the 2007/2008 season. He signed a new contract with the club which will last until June 2012 and is now considered as their first choice goalkeeper. The 26-year-old Handanovic won his first senior cap for Slovenia in 2004 and has won over 35 caps since. He has been the first-choice goalkeeper for his countries Qualifying Campaign for the South Africa 2010 World Cup, starting ahead of his elder cousin Jasmin Handanovic for the Slovenians.
