A defender with big-game experience, Eric Abidal is a talented left back who can also pay comfortably in the centre. Abidal started his professional career at Monaco, signing for them in 2000. After two years at the club he moved to Lille in the hope for first team football. He made 60 appearances for them, attracting the attention of Lyon in the process. A switch to his hometown Lyon was complete in 2004. His latest and most significant transfer was to Spanish giants Barcelona, a dream move for Abidal. He is held in high regard at the club and often features in the starting 11. Providing Raymond Domenech with viable options across the defence, Abidal is considered as an important player in the French setup. After making his debut in 2004 he is approaching 50 caps for Les Bleus.
