One of the fan favorites among supporters of "El Tri," Castro is an aggressive, hard-working defender/midfielder who has made nearly 30 appearances for the national side. His lone goal with Mexico was the tying one in a 2-1 victory over the United States last year on a curling, long-range shot that helped extend the Americans' run of futility at altitude in Mexico City. Castro has spent his entire career with one club, Pumas, a major rarity in today's game. Earning a spot in the lineup under Mexican legend Hugo Sanchez as coach, Castro helped Pumas win back-to-back league championships. After scoring nine goals in his last eight Mexican campaigns, he's gained the trust of current Mexico coach Javier Aguirre and could find himself in the lineup in South Africa.
