Career Highlights:

Lodwick made history when he won the U.S. Olympic Nordic combined trials in late December to became the first American in any sport to qualify for a sixth Winter Olympics. A trip to Sochi appeared in question, however, after he dislocated his left shoulder during a provisional jump at a World Cup event just two weeks later. Although he needed to keep the shoulder immobilized for two weeks, Lodwick wasn't going to let the injury prevent him from going to Russia and vowed he'll be ready for the games. In return for all those years of Olympic service, he was named his country's flagbearer at the opening ceremonies. He made his debut as a 17-year-old at the 1994 Games, finishing 13th in the individual and seventh in the team event. He has five top-10 finishes in individuals, with his best showing coming four years ago in Vancouver, where he finished fourth in the normal hill - seven-tenths of a second behind Italy’s Alessandro Pittin for the bronze. Lodwick didn't come home empty-handed, though, as he skied on the United States’ silver medal-winning 4x5km relay team. Lodwick, who briefly retired from Nordic combined after the 2006 Olympics only to return to the sport two years later, became the first American to win a major international title in the sport, winning gold in both the 10km normal hill and 10km mass start at the 2009 world championships. He also helped the U.S. take bronze in the 4x5km relay at the 2013 worlds - the first Nordic combined medal for an American relay team at worlds. Although he medaled at last year’s worlds, Lodwick had an inconsistent 2013 and finished the year ranked outside the top 30 in the World Cup standings. He has made 175 individual starts in World Cup competition with 28 podium finishes and six victories.
