Winter Games Athletes
A strong contender to medal in the halfpipe at the Sochi Games, Wise first hit the slopes as a 3-year-old and began skiing competitively as a teenager, winning his first national title at age 15 before turning pro three years later. He had a dominant run in 2012, winning at the Winter X Games, the Dew Tour finals and the Grand Prix finals. The Nevada native remained among the halfpipe elite in 2013 with a second straight gold at the X Games and added another at the world championships. Following a stellar performance at the X Games in late January, he has now won three consecutive golds in the Ski SuperPipe - the first time someone has pulled off that feat since Tanner Hall from 2006-08. He has also won silver twice at X Games Tignes and is currently one of the top-ranked halfpipe skiers in the world. Wise has six podium finishes in World Cup competitions since 2009 and comes to Russia fresh off a win at his most recent event on the circuit Jan. 12.
