Career Highlights:

It was an interesting year to say the least for Freeman, a 16-time national champion in cross-country. He was surprisingly dropped from the national team back in April, but chose to go on independently. By the time the season was over, Freeman assured himself a spot on the Olympic team after finishing second among U.S. skiers in the FIS distance points standings. With three previous trips to the Olympics already under his belt, the 33-year-old has plenty of experience to fall back on. He’ll be looking to make up for a disappointing showing in Vancouver, where he finished 45th in the 30-kilometer pursuit and 59th in the 15k freestyle. He came in 14th in the 10+10k pursuit in 2002, marking his best individual finish at the games. Yet Freeman showed he still has something left in the tank at the national championships in early January, coming in third in both the 15k classic and 30k freestyle mass start. He also won a 15k freestyle mass-start race Jan. 18 in a sanctioned FIS race. Freeman, who has Type 1 diabetes, will hope to overcome the odds one more time in what will likely be the final chapter of a long Olympic career.
