Career Highlights:

After failing to medal in 2006 and 2010, Hattestad is poised to finally reach the podium in what could be his last Olympics. The owner of more than 10 individual World Cup victories, Hattestad finished ninth in the men’s individual sprint in a time of 2:29.0 in his Olympic debut at Turin. Three years later, he won gold in the individual and team sprint events at the 2009 world championships, but failed to capitalize on that momentum the following year on the Olympic stage. At the Vancouver Games, Hattestad placed a disappointing fourth in the sprint classic with a time of 3:50.0. Falling short in 2010 fueled Hattestad to keep training with an eye on capturing that elusive medal at the Winter Games. Though he struggled most of the World Cup season leading up to Sochi, Hattestad won the last race on the circuit prior to the Olympics which helped convince the Norwegian coaches to add him to the team. It was reported that Hattestad was not happy that a majority of that squad was selected prior to that final World Cup event. He began skiing in 1994 after watching the Norwegians enjoy success at the Lillehammer Games, and made his World Cup debut for Norway nine years later.
