Career Highlights:

Bjoerndalen is one of the best biathletes in history and will make his sixth and final Olympic appearance in Sochi. The six-time gold medalist has 11 total medals - one shy of countryman Bjorn Daehlie’s total of 12 for the most all-time in the Winter Games. He failed to medal in his Olympic debut in Lillehammer in 1994 before taking home a sprint gold in Nagano in 1998. That set the stage for his astounding 2002 Salt Lake City Games in which he won all four events he entered. He failed to strike gold in Turin in 2006 with two silvers and a bronze before capturing his most recent gold in Vancouver as part of the relay team while adding silver in the individual event. Bjoerndalen, who has won 19 world championship golds, has an excellent chance to surpass Daehlie’s record since Norway is among the favorites in the men’s relay and because of the new mixed relay event. The aging star’s best finish at this past year’s worlds was a fourth-place showing in his favored sprint - and that seems to be his best bet to shine in an individual event in his quest to become the most decorated winter Olympian of all-time.
