Winter Games Athletes
Widely considered the best women's bobsled driver ever, Kiriasis will be back for her fourth - and most likely final - Olympics seeking a third medal to add to the silver she won in 2002 and gold from 2006. She finished fourth at the 2010 Games. A winner of more than 40 races in the last decade, Kiriasis has seven world championship gold medals from individual and team events, won eight straight World Cup overall titles from 2003-11 and has more World Cup wins than any other woman. She finished second in the overall standings this World Cup season after winning bronze at the 2013 world championships, silver in 2012 and gold in 2008. Kiriasis is already familiar with the track in Sochi, having won a pre-Olympics race there in February 2013. She began her winter sports career as a cross-country skier from 1981-85 and then switched to luge before quitting the sport in 1997. After working in an office for three years, Kiriasis took up bobsledding in 2000 at the urging of her former luge coach. She made an immediate impact, finishing second in her first career race and second in the overall standings.
