Winter Games Athletes
The winner of the 2013 world championships, Rudman hopes to leave her mark in Sochi after enduring an up-and-down Olympic career thus far. Rudman, who is engaged to fellow Olympic slider Kristan Bromley, was a competitive track athlete specializing int he 400-meter hurdles before ever trying skeleton. She was introduced to the sport in 2002 and caught on quickly, qualifying for the world junior championships a year later and finishing the highest among British women. Rudman claimed silver in her Olympic debut in Turin, marking her country’s lone medal in those games. That performance led to her carrying the Union Jack for Britain at the opening ceremony four years later. However, she would ultimately call Vancouver the low point of her career after finishing a disappointing sixth. Of small consolation was the fact that Amy Williams became the first individual Brit to win gold at the Winter Games in 30 years with a skeleton gold. With Williams now retired, Rudman’s top competition again comes from her own country in the form of Elizabeth Yarnold, as well as American Noelle Pikus-Pace.
