Career Highlights:

Again sliding with his brother Wolfgang, Andreas Linger will make his fourth Olympic appearance as they bid for an unprecedented third consecutive gold medal in doubles. This time, though, Andreas and Wolfgang will not be favorites as they chase the favorites _ the German tandem of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt. The Lingers were uneven this season on the World Cup circuit, failing to win in eight starts while claiming third in Lillehammer, Norway, and Sigulda, Latvia, and second in Park City, Utah. They also had a did not finish in Koningssee, Germany, and finished sixth in the World Cup standings. Andreas and Wolfgang made their first Olympic appearances in Salt Lake City in 2002, finishing eighth. Their 2006 triumph in Torino was surprising given Wolfgang had broken his ankle and fibula in an Olympic test run the year prior. They responded to the pressure of being defending champions well in Vancouver four years ago, holding off the Sics brothers of Latvia by .266 seconds with a dominant second run that also prevented a German sweep of all three medals. Andreas and Wolfgang won the 2011-12 World Cup Championships, edging out Wendl and Arlt by 10 points after finishing runner-up to them in 2010-11. The brothers also could vie for a medal in the team relay, which is an Olympic event for the first time. Andreas and Wolfgang have contributed to two third-place finishes for Austria this season as it likely will compete with Italy, the U.S. and Canada for silver and bronze since Germany is an overwhelming favorite to win the gold.
