Not long ago, Jacob was known more for his stunts than his victories on the snowboard circuit. Today, the 20-year-old is part of a new wave of snowboardcross racers heading to Sochi. In 2011, Jacob gained Internet fame when he jumped his board over a moving train. He also became the first to do a double-cork on a skateboard, and has traveled with the Nitro Circus - an action-sports group performing stunts around the world. On the snowboard, Jacob had been primarily a halfpipe rider before making the switch to boardercross at the end of 2012 with the hope of qualifying for his first Winter Games. It turned out to be a successful strategy when Jacob claimed the U.S. snowboardcross title in only his third career race last March. Even though he had never finished higher than seventh in seven previous World Cup starts, Jacob pulled off one of the season’s biggest surprises by punching his ticket to Russia with a victory in the final qualifier of the year.
