Hooked on snowboarding at the age of four, Deibold was primarily a halfpipe rider until coaches pushed him to become more well-rounded in each discipline. He seemed to find his niche in snowboardcross with an impressive third-place finish at the 2007 U.S. Championships. He’s been on the rise in the event ever since, placing seventh in the World Cup standings in 2011 to earn a spot in the world championships. That same season, Deibold continued to make his move with a fifth-place finish at the Stoneham World Cup. He enjoyed a breakout season last year, marked by his first trip to the podium in a World Cup competition - a second-place finish on the Olympic course in Sochi, no less, which bodes well for his chances this February. Deibold has also reached the finals in four of five World Cup starts this season. Next up, he'll be making his Olympic debut after qualifying for the games with a bronze medal in a World Cup event last December - his best finish since coming in second at that Sochi test event one year ago.
