Winter Games Athletes
Sigourney attended UC Davis and played water polo at the school before walking away from the sport to pursue freeskiing exclusively. The decision proved to be the right one for the Californian, who won the junior world championship in the halfpipe and a silver medal at the U.S. championships in her first full season of competition. She won silver during her X Games debut in 2011 and shortly after that earned her first victory on the Dew Tour. Sigourney took bronze at her second X Games and brought home two Grand Prix titles in 2012. Injuries, however, have plagued her since, including one to her knee suffered midway through 2012. After rehab, she won the Dew Tour in December of that season and took third at the U.S. Grand Prix. She fell at a Sochi test event one year ago, breaking her collarbone, injuring her shoulder and re-injuring her knee, but has recently bounced back with some strong results. Most noteworthy: a World Cup victory on Dec. 20 and a first-place finish at Olympic qualifying on Jan. 9, which should give her plenty of confidence as she returns to Russia.
