Winter Games Athletes
One of the U.S. team’s up-and-coming athletes, Currier will be competing in his first Olympics. After his parents first strapped skis on his feet at 18 months old, he quickly developed and was enrolled in a ski academy at the tender age of three. He competes in halfpipe and slopestyle, though it seems the pipe will be his best event at the Sochi Games. Currier made some noise on the rookie circuit in 2011-12, finishing eighth in the AFP world rankings out of nearly 3,000 other competitors. He dealt with a knee injury shortly after that but bounced back to take first place in the halfpipe at The North Face Park & Pipe Open Series in 2013 and showed his versatility by winning a World Cup slopestyle event last March 23. His best result during the current World Cup season was an eighth-place finish in the halfpipe Dec. 20.
