Winter Games Athletes
Though Schleper has been a member of the national program since 2007, this will be her first appearance on the Olympic team. It's a bit of redemption for her after she was an early cut during the 2010 selection process for the Vancouver Games. The talented defenseman began her run with the U.S. program as a member of the Under-18 team. She's recorded five goals and nine assists in 53 games while playing for her country. Not the flashiest of defensemen, Schleper's gritty and dependable style of play makes her a valuable commodity, especially during international play. She did record a goal with an assist over four games at the 2013 Four Nations Cup. Schleper helped the Boston Blades win the Clarkson Cup as champions of the Canadian Women's Hockey League in 2013. A first-team all-conference selection and national champion at Minnesota, Schleper ranked sixth in the nation among defensemen with 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists) during her 2010-11 junior season for the Golden Gophers. She graduated Minnesota with a degree in marketing and management.
