Wheeler has been one of the top offensive threats for the Winnipeg Jets for the past few seasons, though he may not get a chance to suit up for the Americans unless there's an injury to one of the team's top forwards. Wheeler's 22 goals have set a career high after surpassing the 21 he posted as a rookie with Boston in 2008-09. He registered a career-best 47 assists in 2011-12 in his first full campaign for Winnipeg, though he's taken on more of a role as goal scorer rather that a distributor. At 6-foot-5, Wheeler uses his size to muscle into the zone and drive hard to the net. Though he plays on the top line for Winnipeg, he's considered a reserve forward for Team USA and insurance should someone on the American roster become unable to play or is hurt during the Olympics. Wheeler, a Minnesota native who stared for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in college, has played in international competition before, scoring two goals in the World Junior Championships in 2006 and recording two goals and three assists in the 2011 Worlds.
