No player has played more games for Team USA than Suter, and he'll come to Sochi as the Americans' top defenseman for his second Olympic appearance. Suter has played 71 games at various levels for the U.S., including being an alternate captain at the Vancouver Games. He also will wear an 'A' in Sochi after registering four assists in six games to help Team USA capture the silver medal in 2010. He'll be searching for his fourth gold medal after helping the U.S. to three others in international play. Suter also has maintained his stature as one of the NHL's best defensemen, and he leads the NHL in average ice time this season at 29:50 per game He was a finalist for the Norris Trophy in the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign, his first with the Minnesota Wild after spending the previous seven with the Nashville Predators, who chose the Wisconsin native with the seventh overall pick in 2003. Suter again is a candidate for the award and has six goals and 27 assists for the playoff-hopeful Wild. Suter's family history with Team USA runs deep as well. His father, Bob, played for the 1980 team that upset the heavily favored Soviet Union in the game dubbed the "Miracle on Ice" as the Americans went on to win the gold medal. Suter will be joined in Sochi by Wild teammate Zach Parise, who served as alternate captain with Suter in 2010.
