STORRS, Conn. (AP) Connecticut center Kiah Stokes has undergone surgery to repair a torn tendon in her right foot.
UConn spokeswoman Sagan Byrne said the injury was not caused by a single event, but dates to problems the 6-foot-3 player had while competing for Linn-Mar High School in Iowa.
The school said the injury "become problematic" during the NCAA tournament. Surgery was performed Friday at the UConn Health Center in Farmington.
Stokes averaged 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds as a freshman for the Huskies, who lost to Notre Dame in the national semifinals. She played 16 minutes in that game, scoring four points with four rebounds and two blocked shots.
Stokes is expected to return to normal activity before the start of the 2012-13 season.
She helped her high school to a 26-0 record and the state title.
