(AP) -- A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that Georgetown assistant Keith Brown has been promoted to head coach of the women's basketball team.

The person spoke Sunday night on condition of anonymity because the school hasn't announced the hiring.

Brown, an assistant at the school for the past five seasons, will be introduced at a news conference early this week. He succeeds Terri Williams-Flournoy, who left Georgetown in early April to take the head coaching position at Auburn. The Hoyas went 23-9 this season before losing to Georgia Tech in the second round of the NCAA tournament. They were 143-104 in Williams-Flournoy's eight seasons as head coach.

Brown spent 11 years as an AAU coach before coming to Georgetown in 2007.
