No. 19 Georgetown women beat George Washington

WASHINGTON (AP) Sugar Rodgers had 18 points and six steals to lead No. 19 Georgetown to a 59-50 victory over George Washington on Sunday, extending the Hoyas' winning streak to eight games.

Tia Magee's three-point play with 48.7 seconds left gave the Hoyas a 58-49 lead and finally some breathing room against a pesky George Washington team.

In what was once an annual matchup, Georgetown (9-2) won the first game between the crosstown rivals since 2004.

George Washington (5-4), which had its four-game winning streak snapped, still leads the all-time series 17-15.

Magee finished with nine points and matched career-highs with 13 rebounds and five steals to help the Hoyas avoid their first regular-season nonconference home loss since Dec. 17, 2006.

Danni Jackson had 10 points, eight steals and four rebounds for the Colonials while Tara Booker scored 10 points.
