LONDON (AP) Germany won the bronze medal in the men's team foil, beating the United States 45-27 in the final fencing event at the Olympics.
The third-seeded Germans were ahead throughout and posted a comfortable win at ExCel Centre on Sunday.
It's Germany's second fencing medal at the London Games after Britta Heidemann's silver in the women's individual epee. Peter Joppich sealed the victory in the ninth bout against Alexander Massialas.
The German foil team took third despite losing Sebastian Bachmann to injury during the match.
The U.S. missed out on a second bronze after the American women's team finished third in the epee.
Favorite Italy faces Japan in the men's team foil final later Sunday.
The top-seeded Italians won 45-24 over the U.S. in the last four. Andrea Cassara, Andrea Baldini and Giorgio Avola will try for the country's third Olympic fencing title in London against the seventh-seeded Japanese.
Japan sneaked past third-seeded Germany 41-40 in the other semi through a sudden-death bout.
Italy is now guaranteed to take its fencing medal tally to seven. It already tops the table over South Korea, having won gold in the women's individual and team foil as well as another two silvers and two bronzes.
Japan is assured of its first fencing medal at the games on the last day of competition at ExCel.
