  • Career Highlights: Isner will return to the grounds where he played in the longest match in tennis history, when he beat France’s Nicolas Mahut 70-68 in the fifth set in a 2010 first-round match at Wimbledon that lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes and took three days to complete. At that time, Isner was mostly considered a journeyman, having never advanced past the fourth round of any Grand Slam event. Today, he is one of the game’s rising stars after reaching the quarterfinals of the 2011 U.S. Open and nearly beating Rafael Nadal at the French Open earlier in the year. Isner has climbed to No. 9 in the rankings as the top American in 2012, with wins over Roger Federer and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. The 6-foot-9 Isner is considering playing doubles and mixed doubles as well, and he’s looking forward to the London Games. Said Isner: “I do remember Andre Agassi winning the gold medal in 1996 in the United States. For me growing up, obviously I was very young; I didn’t know what my tennis career held at that point. But just seeing him win that gold medal in the United States was very special to me. ... Now that I get the opportunity to try to attempt to match his efforts, it’s pretty special to think about.”
