Career Highlights: Four years after failing to qualify for Beijing - finishing fifth at the U.S. trials in the 100 meter butterfly - Vollmer is back in the Olympics for the first time in eight years. She won the 100 butterfly and finished third in the 200 freestyle at the 2012 U.S. trials. At the 2004 Games, Vollmer won gold as part of a world record-setting time in the 800 meter freestyle relay and finished sixth in the 200 freestyle. She was named the Pac-10 and NCAA swimmer of the year in 2009 after winning the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay as well as finishing fourth in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA championships. She also helped the University of California, Berkeley win its first national championship that season. Vollmer, part of the 800 meter relay squad that set a world record at the 2007 world championships, won the 100 butterfly at last year’s worlds. The native of Granbury, Texas, made her first U.S. Olympic trials appearance as a 12-year-old in 2000.
