  • Career Highlights: A two-time Olympic gold medal winner and 13-time national champion, Rhode is the favorite to win gold in the women’s skeet at the 2012 London Games. If Rhode is able to win any kind of medal, she will become the first U.S. Olympian from an individual sport to do so in five consecutive games. As a 17-year-old, Rhode was the youngest American at the 1996 Atlanta Games. A four-time Olympic medalist, Rhode won gold in the women’s double trap in 1996 and 2004 in Athens, sandwiching in a bronze at the 2000 Sydney Games. Her victory in Atlanta made her the youngest female gold medalist in the history of Olympic shooting. While a wrench was thrown into Rhode’s plans when the double trap was eliminated from the Olympic program for the 2008 games, she focused her attention on the skeet. At the 2007 World Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, she set a finals record with 98 hits. One year later, she took home the silver at the Beijing Games. A native of Whittier, Calif., Rhode began shooting skeet at age 13 and earned a silver medal in the event at the 2007 Pan American Games. After winning a bronze in skeet during the 2006 U.S. national championships, she won the 2007 competition. Graced with an outgoing personality, Rhode has served as host of "Step Outside" on the Outdoor Channel. She is an avid hunter, and a builder and restorer of cars who is studying to become a veterinarian.
