  • Career Highlights: The defending all-around world champion didn't get a chance at the Olympic title in the individual all-around, suffering a hugely disappointing fate with a third-place finish among the Americans in qualifying. Wieber was fourth overall, but rules state that only two gymnasts per nation can compete for the crown. Her coach called it a "stupid rule," but she shook off the heartbreak to help the United States to the team all-around title with strong performances in the vault, floor exercise and uneven bars. "A team gold medal was also officially a goal of mine," Wieber said. "I had to pull myself together and move on and be stronger mentally for the team." Wieber was perhaps the most accomplished gymnast coming into London, but she was edged out by teammate Gabby Douglas at the U.S. trials - only the second time Wieber had lost an all-around competition since 2008. Douglas went on to win individual all-around gold in London. Wieber translates her intense and powerful style of gymnastics, coupled with precision, across all four events, but she struggled on the balance beam in qualifying. She still helped carry the United States to all-around team gold after doing the same at the 2011 world championships.
