  • Career Highlights: Rampone isn't only the captain of the U.S., but she's the team's last remaining member of the celebrated group that won the World Cup at home in 1999. Despite her age, she continues to be an important part of the team, providing leadership, tough play and smart defending. Her work rate and competitiveness are strong influences on a team that boasts an array of young, emerging stars. Rampone has been on every World Cup team since 1999 and each Olympic roster since 2000, helping the U.S. to gold in each of the last two. Rampone ranks among the most capped players in team history with 256, but she's only scored four goals. Her leadership abilities were on display at Sky Blue FC of WPS in 2009, as she was named player-coach after the suspension of one coach and the resignation of another. She went on to lead the club to the league title, and announced later that she played the championship match while she was three months pregnant. Rampone hasn't slowed down, helping the U.S. to the final of the 2011 World Cup as the team fell to Japan on penalties. While she may be the oldest member of the Olympic team, Rampone will likely have a major say in whether it can capture a third consecutive gold medal in what may be her final tournament.
