  • Career Highlights: Lea is headed to his second straight Olympics after he received a discretionary selection from USA Cycling to race in the men’s omnium. One of the nation’s most versatile and well-conditioned athletes, Lea made his Olympic debut in 2008 when he finished 16th in the madison in Beijing. Since that event is no longer part of the Olympic cycling program, Lea’s shifted his attention to the grueling omnium. He placed 17th in the event at the 2012 world championships, one year after he finished 20th in the same competition. Since his Olympic appearance, Lea has won four national championships. He won gold medals in the individual pursuit and the omnium at the 2011 national championships. Lea is especially grateful for the success he’s achieved on the track after undergoing surgery to correct some problems with the arteries in his legs during the 2007 season. He has earned more the 40 nationals championships since he began riding a bike at four years old. Lea is not the only Olympian in his family, his brother, Syd, is a five-time gold medal winner in the Special Olympics.
