  • Career Highlights: Every time Neben climbs aboard her bike, she continues to be an inspiration, not just to other cyclists, but athletes in general. At age four, Neben survived a bout with spinal meningitis that left her in a coma for three days. Then in 2007, Neben was treated for melanoma, a potentially fatal form of skin cancer. Being able to overcome such health issues as a child and again as an adult, is a testament to Neben’s character. A fighter and fierce competitor on and off the course, Neben won her first national championship in 2003. In 2006, she won the prestigious Redlands Bicycle Classic in California, France's Tour de l’Aude for the second straight season and the time trial at the Pan American championships. All of Neben’s hard work paid off when she earned a spot on the 2008 Olympic team. However, due to some mechanical problems, she finished 33rd in the road race at Beijing Games. That disappointing performance did not deter Neben from setting her sights on a second consecutive Olympic appearance. The former time trial world champion, Neben finished fourth in the event at the 2010 Worlds and eighth in 2011. She’ll head to London after winning the time trial at the 2012 Pan American continental championships.
