  • Career Highlights: Tegenkamp is the U.S. record holder in the two mile and is one of four Americans to break 13 minutes in the 5,000 meters. He finished second in the 5,000 at the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials and went on to finish 13th in Beijing, but he'll be looking to make his mark in an entirely different event in London - one he initially refused to compete in. Tegenkamp was once quoted saying "Teg don't run no 10K," but he eventually caved and made his 10,000m debut in the 2011 Payton Jordan Invitational, running 27:28.64. He wasn't quite that good at the U.S. trials in June, posting a 27:33.94 that earned him a second-place finish, but that was still enough to earn one of three spots in London. Tegenkamp will certainly have his work cut out for him, though. No American male has medaled in the 10,000 since Billy Mills won gold at the 1964 Tokyo Games.
