  • Career Highlights: If the name Mangold sounds familiar to sports fans, it should. Holley Mangold is the younger sister of center Nick Mangold, a 2006 first-round draft pick of the National Football League’s New York Jets and four-time Pro Bowler. While Holley Mangold already has carved out a fair bit of notoriety, she could end up more famous than her big brother - especially if she becomes the third U.S. woman to win a medal in weightlifting. The only ones to do it were flyweight Tara Nott (gold at Sydney, 2000) and super-heavyweight Cheryl Haworth (bronze at Beijing, 2008). Mangold said she tried a variety of sports growing up, including roller skating, gymnastics and swimming, and in 2006, she broke a significant gender taboo when she became the first girl in Ohio high school history to play on the offensive line. However, it was in 2008 when she started weightlifting, and her progress in the sport has skyrocketed over the last year. Still, Mangold was not expected to be a serious contender to compete in London - the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro seemed to be a more realistic goal. However, with the U.S. Olympic Team Trials being held in her home state back in March, she was second in the snatch with a lift of 110 kilograms and won the clean-and-jerk with 145 kilos. That aggregate total of 255 kilos - or an eye-popping 561 pounds - landed her one of the two Olympic spots with Sarah Robles. Mangold is no stranger to the limelight of television, having appeared on MTV’s “True Life,” in an episode titled “I’m The Big Girl.” Fans of the show could watch Mangold make history on the podium this summer in London.
