Career Highlights: No woman from the United States has won an Olympic gold medal in weightlifting since flyweight Tara Nott in 2000 - the first year females were able to compete. A former shot putter from Arizona State who’s still a relative novice when it comes to competition could stop that dry spell. Robles took up weightlifting in 2004 as part of training for the shot put but didn’t start competing full time in weightlifting until 2008. She then won the National Championships in three straight years starting in 2009. Robles reached the Olympics for the first time after beating teammate Holley Mangold by three kilograms at the U.S. Team Trials in March. Robles also writes about her passion in a blog titled Pretty Strong, offering training tips among other items, such as addressing myths about female lifters.
