  • Weight: 174 lbs / 78.9 kg

  • Career Highlights: The 2011 World outdoor champion in the triple jump with the third-best American performance ever, Taylor is the favorite to win gold when he makes his Olympic debut in London. He'll be there with his former University of Florida teammate Will Claye, who he edged in the U.S. Olympic trials by 0.08m in the final, needing just one jump to record his winning 17.63m. Taylor was a long jumper in high school but got bored and decided to pursue an event that required even more athleticism, checking YouTube to learn about an event he knew little about. He arrived in Gainesville and immediately won three titles at the 2009 SEC championships, kickstarting a career that saw him win 10 All-American honors. Taylor opted to forgo his final year of college eligibility to sign with Li-Ning, a Chinese athletic company, and it appears to be a decision that's about to pay off in a big way. Taylor could be one of the American faces of the London Games if he jumps to his potential, and anything less than gold will be a disappointment.
