  • Career Highlights: The world's No. 1 player for nearly a year until Roger Federer overtook him on July 9, Djokovic won three Grand Slams last year in one of the greatest seasons in tennis history. The Serb had a 43-match win streak snapped with a loss to Federer in the French Open semifinals, winning his first 41 matches of the calendar year. Djokovic also won a record five Masters singles titles in 2011 and started 2012 by capturing his second straight and third overall Australian Open for his sixth career Grand Slam title. Djokovic is known as a great patriot, leading Serbia to its first Davis Cup title in 2010 and cementing his status as a national hero. His rise to No. 1 has thrust his fame to even greater proportions, with ’60 Minutes’ profiling his journey from war-torn Belgrade to the top of the tennis world. Djokovic made his Olympic debut in 2008, losing to Rafael Nadal in the semifinals and beating James Blake for the bronze medal. His lifelong dream was to become a Wimbledon champion and he is eager to bring more glory to his country this year. Said Djokovic in March: “I had this privilege to be representing my country in the 2008 Beijing Olympics where I've met a lot of world top athletes. For me, that was actually an incredible experience ... more than playing in the tournament. It's a different experience from any other, really, because you're representing ... your country and you're sharing the rooms with different athletes."
