Career Highlights: A member of the Russian national team since 2000, Vyatchanin made his Olympic debut in 2004, finishing fourth in the 4x100-meter medley relay. Four years later in Beijing, he won a pair of bronze medals in the 100 and 200 backstroke, events which he had won gold in at the 2006 European championships. He continued improving after the 2008 Games, setting a European record in the 100 back at the world championships one year later. Vyatchanin failed to make the Russian worlds team last year, but recent training at the University of Florida appears to have paid off. He qualified to compete in the 100 and 200 back in London by winning both events at April's national championships.
