Career Highlights: Jelimo became the first Kenyan woman to earn an Olympic gold medal when, at the age of 18, she won the 800 at the Beijing Games. But not much has gone right since. She sat out the 2009 indoor season because of an Achilles' injury and failed to finish her semifinal race at the world championships that year. She tried to bounce back from the dismal season in 2010, winning the 800 in a Kenyan meet, but finishing eighth at the Diamond League stop in Shanghai, which eliminated her from contention for an appearance at the African Championships. Her rough times continued in 2011, when she finished last in the 800 at the Prefontaine Classic with a time of 2:09.12, and she didn't run in the worlds. This year, however, she's bounced back, taking gold in the 800 at the world indoor championships and improving her time to 1:58.83. Jelimo married fellow 800 runner Peter Kiprotich Murrey in November 2007.
