Career Highlights: Katulu Ravi Kumar is an Indian weightlifter from Orissa. Kumar was originally a bodybuilder but took up weightlifting as a sport in 2007 on the advice of his trainer Narayan Sahu. This decision proved to be a fruitful one for him as he ended up winning three gold medals at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at Penang in 2009. His biggest victory came at the 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi, where he won the gold in the Men’s 69kg category in front of his home crowd, with only three years of practice. In 2011, he won three bronze medals at the Senior Weightlifting Championship at Tongling, China. Kumar also won three gold medals at the Senior Weightlifting Championship held at Bangalore. Kumar was officially selected by the Indian Weightlifting Federation to compete in the 2012 London Olympics after the body earned two Olympic berths in the recently concluded Senior Asian Championships at Pyeongtaek, South Korea.
