Career Highlights: Gagan Narang is one of India's top shooters and was the first Indian to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. He finished in the twelfth position in the 10m Air Rifle event at the Athens Olympics in 2004. He won four gold medals at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Narang narrowly missed out on a finals berth finishing ninth overall in the 10m Air Rifle event. In the 50m Rifle 3 positions event, he finished thirteenth missing a spot in the final round by just three points. He holds the world record for the highest score of 703.5 in the 10m Air Rifle event at the ISSF World Cup Final Bangkok, 2008. In the last Commonwealth Games, he won four gold medals in the rifle events which included a perfect score in 10m Air Rifle event. His achievements at the 2010 Asian Games, where he won two silver, proved that he is one of India's best bet for a medal at the London Olympics. Narang was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2005 and also the Padma Shri in 2010. He was awarded the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2011 which is the highest honour for a sportsperson in India. His calmness and nerves of steel have time and again proved to be one of his biggest assets.
