  • Career Highlights: Thirteen-time National Badminton Champion Jwala Gutta is one of India’s most experienced badminton players. She started playing at a very young age and is considered to be India’s best Doubles player. She has partnered Shruti Kurien and Ashwini Ponnappa in Women’s Doubles and more recently V Diju in Mixed Doubles. In 2004, she reached the semi-final of the Indian Satellite Open and finished runner-up at the Toulouse Open. Gutta also reached the final rounds of the Scottish International Open and the Portuguese Badminton Championships. In 2005, she won the Jakarta Satellite tournament and the Welsh International tournament in the mixed doubles category. In 2006, she won the Women’s Doubles event at the Sri Lanka Satellite tournament. The year 2007 was remarkable for Gutta as she won the Cyprus Badminton International tournament and the Indian International tournament in both the Women’s Doubles and the Mixed Doubles categories as well as the Sri Lankan International tournament in the Mixed Doubles and the Pakistan International Challenge. 2008 saw her career graph soar higher when she emerged victorious at the Nepal International Series tournament in both Doubles categories, the Yonex Dutch Open Grand Prix in the Doubles and the KLRC Bulgaria Open Grand Prix tournament in the Mixed Doubles. In 2009, Gutta and Diju reached the finals of the Mixed Doubles at the World Super Series Masters in Malaysia. The 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi was the highlight of her success as she created history by winning the gold in the Women’ s Doubles along with the silver in the Mixed Doubles. In 2011, she claimed the bronze at the Badminton World Championships. Her consistently impressive performances have made her a strong medal contender in the Doubles categories at the 2012 London Olympics.
