Career Highlights: Ashwini Ponnappa is an Indian badminton player from Bangalore. She partners with Jwala Gutta in the Women’s Doubles event. She won her first title at the young age of 12 when she won the 2001 Indian Junior Championship. In 2006, she won the gold medal at the South Asian Games. But the biggest victory of her career came at the 2010 Commonwealth Games where she along with Gutta created history by winning the gold in the Women’s Doubles category. She also won a silver in the Mixed Team event. The pair followed it up with a bronze medal at the London World Championships held in 2011. The Gutta-Ponnappa pair is currently ranked No. 16 in the world and has automatically qualified for the 2012 London Olympics by virtue of their rankings.
