  • Country: India
  • Sport: Track & Field
  • Born: 11/7/1980
  • Career Highlights: Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Ram Singh Yadav is a long distance runner and a member of the Indian Army. The marathon man was unlucky to miss out on an Olympics berth in 2008 as he failed to qualify by a mere three seconds. Despite the heartbreak, the army man persevered and created history when he secured his place for the 2012 London Olympics by winning the 2012 Mumbai Marathon with a time of 2 hours 16 minutes and 59 seconds that was well under the 2 hour 18 minute ‘B’ time set for Olympics qualification. In fact, he ran so well that he narrowly missed out on the ‘A’ qualification mark of 2:15:00 and he also managed to shave off almost nine minutes from the time he had recorded the previous year in the same marathon. Yadav finished 12th overall and was the first among all the Indian runners. He trains at the Army Sports Institute in Pune. Being India’s only participant in the marathon, there will be high expectations from him.
