Yargeris Savigne Cuba

  • Country: Cuba
  • Sport: Track & Field
  • Born: 11/13/1984
  • Hometown: Guantanamo, Cuba
  • Career Highlights: Savigne has her sights set on becoming the first Cuban female to medal in the triple jump at the Olympics. Making her Games debut as a 23-year-old in Beijing, Savigne finished fifth in the triple jump and had a best jump of 15.05 meters. She also competed in the long jump, but didn't make it out of the qualifying round, finishing 17th at 6.49 meters. Savigne has since focused almost exclusively on the triple jump. She was the world champion in 2007 and 2009, and her jump of 15.28 meters to win the ’07 title was a personal best. She also took gold in the triple jump at the 2008 world indoor championships and silver in the same event two years later. Her best jump inside is 15.05 meters - set at the ’08 championships - but she fell well short of that mark at the 2012 world indoors, jumping 13.97 meters to finish in eighth place.
