Career Highlights: Nikpai became an instant celebrity in his native Afghanistan following the Beijing Games, which saw him defeat two-time world champion Juan Antonio Ramos to win the bronze - his country's first and only Olympic medal in any sport. Ranked No. 13 in the world in the 68 kg division as of June, Nikpai proved he was no fluke by also taking bronze at the 2011 world championships. Nikpai, who began competing in taekwondo at just 10 years old, has won 17 of 27 registered fights. He won bronze at the 2008 Asian Games and, more recently, took silver at that event in May, when he fell to Iran's Alireza Nasr Azadani in the title match.
