  • Country: United States
  • Sport: Water Polo
  • Height: 6'1" / 1.85m
  • Weight: 201 lbs / 91.2 kg
  • Born: 11/21/1981
  • Career Highlights: While he comes from a water polo-playing family - his father Richard played in Brazil and later coached Team USA, and sister Cassie was an All-American at Long Beach State - Tony Azevedo may be the best of them all, as well as one of the top players in the world. Merely growing up to play water polo at all was a triumph for Azevedo, who severed his trachea and esophagus in an accident when he was four years old, but made a full recovery. He has led Team USA in scoring at all three Olympics in which he's appeared, tallying 17 goals for the silver medal-winning team of 2008, 15 in 2004, and 13 in his Olympic debut at Sydney in 2000. Azevedo was just as accomplished in college at Stanford from 2001-04, becoming the first ever to win the Peter J. Cutino award as the nation's top water polo player four straight years. Azevedo was born in Rio de Janeiro, but his family moved to the United States when he was one month old.
