  • Career Highlights: The son of two-time Olympian Matthew Centrowitz - now the head track coach at American University - Centrowitz Jr. has spent his entire life around the track. He was a high school star in Annapolis, Md., before following in his father's footsteps and heading to the University of Oregon, where he won the Pac-10 title in the 1,500 meters three times and the NCAA title in 2011. He finished third in the 2011 world championships in the 1,500 - becoming the youngest American to medal in that event - and turned pro later that fall, giving up his final year of eligibility with the Ducks. Centrowitz finished second in the U.S. Olympic trials that were held on the Oregon campus, fading in the final 25 meters as he was overtaken by Leonel Manzano, and finding success in London won't be easy. No American male has medaled in the 1,500 since Jim Ryun won silver in the 1968 Mexico City Games.
