Career Highlights: Four years ago, Hedstrom took 12th in the lightweight double sculls at the U-23 world championships. This summer, she will be going for gold in her first Olympics. Hedstrom and Julie Nichols qualified for London after finishing fourth at a World Cup regatta in May. Hedstrom, who first participated in the sport in 2000, became the first member of the University of Wisconsin lightweight team to qualify for the Games as her boat edged out Great Britain by .09 seconds. Hedstrom has competed at the last three world championships, finishing fourth in lightweight double sculls in 2011, winning silver in lightweight quadruple sculls in 2010 and taking 11th in lightweight double sculls in 2009.
