  • Career Highlights: Cornelius, 27, will participate in his first Olympics this summer after helping the Americans cross the line first at the final Olympic qualification regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland, in May. Cornelius was added to the new lineup earlier that month after the U.S. team - the gold-medal winner in Athens and bronze medalists in Beijing - didn’t qualify out of the 2011 world championships. Cornelius, who is joined on the eights by his former Stanford teammate David Banks, has been rowing since 2000 when he joined the Cascadilla Boat club near his hometown of Ithaca, N.Y. Cornelius finished fifth in the eights at the U-23 world championships in 2006, and he took ninth in the 2009 world championships in Poland. He finished first in the pair at the 2010 USRowing national championships after taking silver in the pair, gold in the four and silver in the eights at the 2009 event. Cornelius, who has an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford and a graduate degree in engineering for sustainable development from Cambridge, is one of the co-founders of Milestone Academic Counseling.
