Her 2010 title was the first in TCU’s history. She is a three-time all-American in both smallbore and air rifle. Scherer will compete in the 10-meter air rifle in London after not being selected in 2008 despite finishing second at the U.S. Olympic trials. She bounced back to win two golds, two silvers and a bronze over the next three junior nationals. Scherer claimed silver in the three-positions event at the junior world championships and also won silver in that event at the U.S. senior national championships in 2010, when she claimed her first gold at that level in the 10-meter air rifle. In 2011, Scherer’s gold at a World Cup event at Changwon, Korea, opened up an Olympic quota spot for the U.S. team. The Massachusetts native is a distant relative of Daniel Boone and 19th century British preacher Charles Spurgeon. Her brother, Stephen, who passed away in 2010, was a member of the 2008 Olympic team.
